Following their promotion from Serie B last season, Genoa have had a reasonable first-half of the campaign in Serie A as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the middle-of-the-table. Under the management of former Italy striker Alberto Gilardino, the hosts remain an ambitious side with ownership group 777 Partners.
The home team come into this one on the back of a much-needed come from behind defeat of Sassuolo last weekend. Albert Gudmundsson and Caleb Ekuban scored second-half goals to give Genoa the victory in that one. They had been winless in their previous five matches across all competitions.
INTER MILAN
Regardless of this weekend’s result, Internazionale, coached by Simone Inzaghi, will be heading into the New Year sitting at the top-of-the-table in Serie A. The Nerazzurri come into this one on the back of a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Lecce in their most recent outing, last week, and have now enjoyed four successive Serie A wins.
Inzaghi, formerly of Lazio, is looking to win the Scudetto for the first time in his managerial career. Inter have been outstanding in Serie A throughout the campaign with just one defeat in their 17 matches so far this season. They have scored 41 goals in those 17 games and conceded just seven as they dominate proceedings.

Alberto Gilardino will be aiming to push his Genoa side into the top-half of the table over the second-half of the campaign. They have been resolute this season but will be keen on showing a little more attacking ambition as they settle back in the top-flight. Inter are without some key players for this weekend and the potential of Serie A top scorer Lautaro Martinez could be crucial. Despite being away from home and missing some key men, the visitors should be capable of grinding out another victory.
