GENOA PREVIEW: STRUGGLING GENOA
It had been a bright start to the campaign for Genoa with a draw against defending champions Internazionale on the opening weekend of the campaign before then defeating Monza. However, off-field issues with ownership group 777 Partners have begun to affect on-pitch matters as they begin the weekend in the bottom three and the relegation places.
The Genovese are now winless in eight matches across all competitions since that aforementioned victory over Monza. The home team come into this one on the back of a 3-0 hammering at the hands of Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico with Tijjani Noslin, Pedro and Matias Vecino scoring in that game.
FIORENTINA PREVIEW: I VIOLA PUSHING
Fiorentina have reached the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League in each of the last two seasons but lost manager Vincenzo Italiano over the summer to Bologna with I Viola opting to appoint Monza boss Raffaele Palladino and, after a slow start to the season, things have really turned round for the Florentians.
The visitors come into this one on the back of a 5-1 annihilation of a struggling Roma side at the Artemio Franchi at the weekend. That means they have won six and drawn one of their last seven matches across all competitions. They have scored 15 goals in their last three games, too.
GENOA TEAM NEWS: SEVERAL ISSUES
Genoa are dealing with several injury issues this weekend and especially in attack which isn’t helpful after the summer transfer window sales of Mateo Retegui and Albert Gudmundsson.
As well as that duo, Ruslan Malinovskiy has a broken ankle and he is sidelined for Genoa alongside both Caleb Ekuban and former Marseille striker Vitinha.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Leali; Sabelli, Vogliacco, Johan Vasquez, Matturro; Frendrup, Miretti; Zanoli, Thorsby, Caricol; Pinamonti
UNAVAILABLE: Gollini (Injured), De Winter (Injured), Bani (Injured), Junior Messias (Injured), Malinovskiy (Injured), Ekuban (Injured), Vitinha (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Ankeye (Injured)
FIORENTINA TEAM NEWS: NO MANDRAGORA OR GUDMUNDSSON
Fiorentina struggled at the start of this season when Palladino tried to switch to a back three after the impressive nature of Italiano’s back four but their back four has returned.
They do have a couple of injury absentees as both Rolando Mandragora and Albert Gudmundsson are sidelined, whilst Marin Pongracic is a doubt for this weekend.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): David de Gea; Dodo, Comuzzo, Ranieri, Gosens; Cataldi, Adli; Colpani, Beltran, Bove; Kean
UNAVAILABLE: Mandragora (Injured), Gudmundsson (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Pongracic (Injured)
GENOA VS FIORENTINA PREDICTION
Genoa will try and take the game to Fiorentina with 2006 FIFA World Cup winning striker Alberto Gilardino still at the helm and it is his impressive coaching that is their best hope of getting out of their current on-pitch mess. However, the form of Fiorentina, and especially with their depth, means the overwhelming likelihood for this game is that Fiorentina don’t necessarily run riot but do comfortably win in Genoa.
