THE LOWDOWN

GENOA

Following their promotion to the top-flight last season, Genoa have performed more than respectably well as they head into the final few months of the campaign sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table, coached by 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino. They, though, appear an ambitious club, despite being owned by 777 Partners, so will be aiming to finish with a flourish this season.

They come into this one on the back of a continuation of their improved form as they shared a goalless draw with an in-form Empoli side in Florence last weekend, battling well to secure a point. That result means they are now unbeaten in their last eight matches in Serie A as they sit just six points outside of the top seven and the European spots.

ATALANTA

In what is a transitional campaign for Gian Piero Gasperini and Atalanta, the Bergamasci are actually performing quite well to begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots. They earned a third straight Serie A win last weekend, impressively defeating Lazio by three goals to one.

That victory, which saw Atalanta go 3-0 up with a goal from Mario Pasalic and brace from Charles De Ketelaere, means that the visitors are now unbeaten in their last seven matches across all competitions with just one loss, away at an at the time in-form Bologna, in their last 11 games. They have also notched ten goals in their last three league games, too, as one of the league’s most in-form teams.

THE PREDICTION

As mentioned, Genoa have performed well this season but will want their performances to be a little bit more proactive and on the front foot, especially now they are pretty much assured of Serie A status next season. They face an Atalanta side that are in genuinely excellent form at the moment with a bit of rhythm in the final third now beginning to show. The visitors are favourites for what could well be quite a fun match for the neutral.

TIP: ATALANTA TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
