THE LOWDOWN

FIORENTINA

It was an extremely impressive campaign for Fiorentina last season as they reached the finals of the UEFA Europa Conference League and the FA Cup. Vincenzo Italiano, though, has managed to cultivate an impressive and improved Fiorentina side as they compete for a top four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification, despite the loss of the likes of Igor Julio and Sofyan Amrabat in the summer transfer window.

I Viola come into this one on the back of a minor dip in form, though, with no wins inside 90 minutes in their last four matches across all competitions. They were beaten by three goals to nil by Napoli in Saudi Arabia last weekend in the semi-finals of the Supercoppa Italiana. Giovanni Simeone and a brace from Alessio Zerbin separated the sides in Riyadh.

INTER MILAN

Coached by former Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi, Internazionale have been magnificent throughout this campaign. They were knocked off top spot last weekend with Juventus taking advantage of Inter’s involvement in the Supercoppa Italiana. However, Inzaghi’s Inter do appear to be comfortably the best team in the league so they are expected to continue their form from winning the aforementioned Supercoppa.

Inter defeated Lazio by three goals to nil in the semi-final before edging past ten-man Napoli by a goal to nil. The Nerazzurri begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting a point behind Juventus with a game-in-hand. They have been strong in attack with 49 goals scored in 20 matches and they have only conceded ten goals in those 20 games, too.

THE PREDICTION

Fiorentina have been immensely strong this season and also entertaining to watch as they challenge for a top four finish after finishing eighth in the league table. They face an Inter side that are expected to get straight back into the swing of things to put Juventus under pressure at the top so an Inter win is to be expected.

TIP: INTER TO WIN
