THE LOWDOWN

FIORENTINA

After reaching the finals of both the UEFA Europa Conference League and the Coppa Italia last season, Fiorentina have performed very well to ensure this campaign was not an underwhelming one in the circumstances with manager, Vincenzo Italiano, gaining a lot of pressure for the job he is doing with I Viola in Florence.

Fiorentina come into this one on the back of a really poor run of recent form, though, and were beaten 3-2 by a struggling Lecce side in their most recent outing, last weekend, with the opposition scoring two goals in second-half stoppage-time to win that match. They are now winless in their last six matches inside 90 minutes across all competitions.

FROSINONE

Despite gaining promotion back to the top-flight last season, Frosinone took the decision to replace manager Fabio Grosso with former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco. The Romans had the intention of playing a front foot and fluent style of football under Di Francesco and that has been the case as they begin the weekend as the top scorers in the bottom-half of Serie A.

Frosinone have notched 31 times in their 23 matches so far this season with 44 goals conceded meaning there has been an average of over three goals per game in their Serie A matches so far this season. They come into this one on the back of a 3-2 defeat at home to AC Milan in a game in which they led 2-1 with less than 20 of the 90 minutes to go.

THE TEAM NEWS

FIORENTINA

Luca Ranieri will miss this weekend’s clash with Frosinone as he is suspended, whilst Christian Kouame remains at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1’’)’: Terracciano; Faraoni, Martinez Quarta, Milenkovic, Biraghi; Lopez, Duncan; Nzola, Bonaventura, Sottil; Beltran

UNAVAILABLE: Ranieri (Suspended), Kouame (International duty), Dodo (Injured), Castrovilli (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Arthur (Injured)

FROSINONE

The likes of Kevin Bonifazi and Anthony Oyono remain out injured for Frosinone, whilst both Jaime Baez and Marvin Cuni are still doubtful for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Turati; Gelli, Okoli, Romagnoli, Brescianini; Mazzitelli, Barrenechea; Seck, Soule, Harroui; Kaio Jorge

UNAVAILABLE: Bonifazi (Injured), Oyono (Injured), Marchizza (Injured), Kalaj (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Cuni (Injured), Baez (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Fiorentina would be eyeing this one up as an excellent opportunity to get themselves back on track but their form is such that even a home game against Frosinone is not a foregone conclusion. Vincenzo Italiano is an attacking manager in theory so the interesting thing this season has been that even when Fiorentina were picking up results, they were not scoring too many goals. That will have to change and they are hosting a Frosinone side that, as mentioned, have been thrilling to watch for the neutral so far this season. As a result, both teams scoring would seem a good bet for this one.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
