THE LOWDOWN

CAGLIARI

Cagliari gained promotion to then top-flight last season with the guidance of Claudio Ranieri seeing them through the Serie B playoffs against Bari. The Sardinians started this season slowly but have been much-improved as the campaign has gone on to leave themselves only just sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places on goal difference.

Whilst they are in the bottom three, only being in on goal difference is a positive for them having gone winless in their opening 11 matches of the campaign. They come into this one on the back of a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Roma at Stadio Olimpico last weekend, though, meaning they are now currently enduring a three-match losing streak in Serie A.

LAZIO

After finishing as runners’ up in Serie A last season, it was a turbulent summer at Lazio with Maurizio Sarri complaining quite often about the running of the club, which included the sale of key midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Al Hilal of the Saudi Pro League. They started really slowly but the capital city club have been much-improved as the season has gone on.

Lazio come into this one on the back of a 3-1 defeat away to Atalanta in Bergamo with Mario Pasalic and a brace from Charles De Ketelaere going three up before Ciro Immobile scored a consolation penalty in the 84th minute. Prior to that loss, though, they were unbeaten in their previous five matches since before Christmas.

THE TEAM NEWS

CAGLIARI

QUESTIONABLE:

LAZIO

Lazio have one key absentee for this weekend with midfielder Nicolo Rovella out suspended, whilst Patric missing from this one due to injury.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Gila, Romagnoli, Marusic; Guendouzi, Vecino, Luis Alberto; Isaksen, Castellanos, Anderson

UNAVAILABLE: Rovella (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Patric (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These are teams at opposite ends of the Serie A table and, at least in theory, they should be playing very different styles of football. Cagliari have performed well since late autumn but they remain firmly in the relegation places. Lazio have drifted towards the middle-of-the-table but remain in a good position to challenge for a top four finish. Whilst both teams are in reasonable positions, neither are in very good form a frustrating, low-scoring encounter is to be expected for this one on Saturday afternoon.

TIP: UNDER 3.5 GOALS
