THE LOWDOWN

BOLOGNA

Thiago Motta is establishing himself as one of the most exciting and promising young coaches in Italian football as he implements and attempts to perfect a proactive and progressive style of football that has the home team pushing towards the top seven and the European spots; they are currently eighth and below Roma on goal difference.

They suffered just their second defeat of the Serie A season a couple of weeks ago, losing 2-1 to Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi. They had been on a ten-match unbeaten run of form in Italy’s top-flight since they suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to an AC Milan side who began the campaign well on the opening day of the season.

TORINO

Since his appointment in 2021, Torino have consistently played an easy on the eye style of football that has really lacked any cutting edge of effectiveness, especially in attack. That has been thrown into the spotlight even more so this season with the visitors having managed to score just ten goals in their opening 12 matches of the season.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with in-form Monza in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago, before the break. That means they are actually now in decent form with seven points collected from their last three matches, following back-to-back victories against Lecce and Sassuolo in Serie A.

THE TEAM NEWS

TORINO

Ivan Juric will be without several key players for this weekend as Nikola Vlasic joins Samuele Ricci, Perr Schuurs and Koffi Djidji on the sidelines.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Milinkovic-Savic; Tameze, Buongiorno, Rodriguez; Bellanova, Linetty, Ilic, Radonjic, Lazaro; Sanabria, Zapata

UNAVAILABLE: Vlasic (Injured), Ricci (Injured), Schuurs (Injured), Djidji (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

The two managers like to play a generally proactive and progressive style of football and they are both sitting in relatively decent positions to attack the busy festive period over the next couple of months. Bologna, whilst easy on the eye, have not been that prolific with 13 goals scored in 12 matches and Torino’s struggles in front of goal are well documented so don’t expect a thriller on Monday evening.
