THE LOWDOWN

BOLOGNA

Coached by the impressive Thiago Motta, Bologna are launching a serious challenge towards the top four and potential UEFA Champions League qualification this season. They had a bit of a blip at the start of this year but they now come into this on the back of a 4-0 annihilation of Lecce in their most recent outing, last weekend.

Sam Beukema opened the scoring in the fifth minute of that match before a brace by Riccardo Orsolini was followed by a clinching goal from Jens Odgaard. That impressive hammering means they have suffered just two defeats in their last 13 matches across all competitions, fixing their goal scoring issues with eight goals in their last two outings.

FIORENTINA

Last season, Fiorentina reached the final of both the Coppa Italia and UEFA Europa Conference League so it would have had to have been an extremely impressive campaign to have ensured an improvement and progression under the management of Vincenzo Italiano. I Viola are just a couple of points and places below Bologna, though, after a similarly slow start to the calendar year.

The visitors had been winless six matches inside 90 minutes across all competitions before they ended that poor run of form with a hammering of Frosinone on Sunday afternoon. Andrea Belotti, Jonathan Ikone, Lucas Martinez Quarta, Nicolas Gonzalez and Antonin Barak were on the scoresheet as Fiorentina won by five goals to one.

THE TEAM NEWS

Bologna have more or less a fully fit squad for this weekend with only Adama Soumaoro unavailable due to an ACL injury that has kept him for most of the season.

FIORENTINA

Fiorentina only have a couple of long-term injury absentees for this weekend with both Dodo and Gaetano Castrovilli remaining unavailable for the trip to Bologna.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Terracciano; Kayode, Milenkovic, Martinez Quarta, Biraghi; Duncan, Mandragora; Ikone, Beltran, Gonzalez; Belotti

UNAVAILABLE: Dodo (Injured), Castrovilli (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These two sides have shared many similarities throughout this campaign and they are both expected to challenge for a top four finish in these final few months. Bologna and Fiorentina have combined for a total of 69 goals in Serie A and they both intend on playing a progressive style of football that was ineffective in the first few weeks of this year but both come into this on the back of impressive performances and results so will be buoyed by that and an entertaining clash for the neutral is to be expected.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
