THE LOWDOWN

ATALANTA

Under the management of Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta are beginning to become a little more functional this season as they challenge for a top seven finish and European qualification. The Bergamasci come into this weekend’s round of fixtures in the top five after an impressive run of recent form.

They hammered Frosinone by five goals to nil in their most recent outing a couple of weeks ago with goals from Teun Koopmeiners, Ederson, Charles De Ketelaere, Davide Zappacosta and Erik Holm. That followed on from defeating AC Milan in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia and they have suffered just one loss in their last nine matches across all competitions.

UDINESE

It has been a bizarre campaign for Udinese so far as they battle against relegation down at the bottom end of the table. Even with former Crawley Town boss Gabriele Cioffi replacing Andrea Sottil in November, Udinese have remained difficult to beat but with far, far too many draws as they sit just a point outside of the bottom three and the relegation places.

In 21 matches so far this season in Serie A, the Friulians have managed just two victories but 12 draws means that they have only lost seven games – the same amount as Roma and defending champions, Napoli. They come into this one on the back of a 3-2 defeat at home to AC Milan in their most recent outing, last weekend.

THE TEAM NEWS

PREDICTED XI (3-5-1-1): Okoye; Ferreira, Perez, Kristensen; Ebosele, Lovric, Walace, Samardzic, Kamara; Pereyra; Lucca

THE PREDICTION

Atalanta have become quite functional this season under Gian Piero Gasperini. The home team are trying to grind their way to the top four. Once upon a time, they were one of the most entertaining teams in the top-flight but they did thrash Frosinone by five goals to nil a couple of weeks ago. They now face an Udinese side that have been much-improved, especially in attack, so could open Atalanta up a little bit. The hosts remain favourites for what could be quite a rare entertaining encounter involving them this season.

TIP: ATALANTA TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
