THE LOWDOWN

ATALANTA

In what is generally viewed as a transitional campaign, Atalanta begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots. The Bergamasci are enjoying a very impressive campaign, especially in relative terms under Gian Piero Gasperini.

The hosts come into this one on the back of a comfortable and impressive 2-0 defeat of Udinese in their most recent outing, last weekend, with goals from Gianluca Scamacca and Aleksei Miranchuk. They have collected ten points from their last four matches and will be looking to cement themselves in the top four.

LAZIO

In what was a turbulent summer transfer window with Maurizio Sarri’s complaints causing a bit of disruption between the club and its supporters. The Romans began extremely slowly and looked set for a very underwhelming campaign in the middle-of-the-table but qualification for the knockout stages of this season’s UEFA Champions League has been followed by improved form in the league.

The capital city club shared a goalless draw with underperforming defending champions Napoli, last weekend, at Stadio Olimpico. Whilst a frustrating result given Napoli’s struggled this season, it did follow on from four successive victories for Lazio in the league and they also had the morale boost of defeating rivals Roma in the Coppa Italia last month, too.

THE TEAM NEWS

LAZIO

There is only one absentee for this weekend with Lazio’s Danilo Cataldi unavailable for the trip to Bergamo, due to suspension.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Gila, Romagnoli, Marusic; Guendouzi, Vecino, Luis Alberto; Isaksen, Castellanos, Anderson

THE PREDICTION

These are two sides competing for a top four spot that has opened up after the dramatic fall off from Napoli this year, leaving the door open. Lazio finished as runners’ up last season but such was there summer, winning this weekend and propelling themselves above Atalanta would actually widely be viewed as an extremely successful opening five months of this campaign. These two have both struggled for fluency throughout the campaign and them cancelling each other out would not appear unlikely.
