THE LOWDOWN

ATALANTA

Atalanta have had a bit of an evolution over the summer with the remnants of their once brilliant side finally fully moving as Duvan Zapata, Josip Ilicic and Papu Gomez are no longer with the club. They made some interesting summer signings but haven’t quite hit the fluency of previous Gian Piero Gasperini-led teams.

The Bergamasci, who were once the most entertaining and high-scoring team in Europe, have had their ten matches consist of just 26 goals with only Inter and Juventus having better defensive records. The hosts’ most recent outing was an impressive 3-0 hammering of Empoli, last week, making it just one defeat in nine matches across all competitions.

INTER MILAN

After winning the Serie A title in 2021, Internazionale have not really put up much of a fight in either of the last two titles, only pushing Milan in 2022 nominally. Inter, though, are expecting to build upon their cup success from last season in both the Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions League by focusing on league form.

Inter come into this on the back of a slender but impressive 1-0 defeat of Roma in their most recent outing, last weekend. Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri have now enjoyed three successive victories and they are unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions as they begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting at the top-of-the-table.

THE TEAM NEWS

ATALANTA

Gian Piero Gasperini is without a few key players for this weekend with Giorgio Scalvini, Jose Luis Palomino and El Bilal Toure all unavailable.

QUESTIONABLE:

INTER MILAN

Inter also have a couple of injury concerns as the likes of Juan Cuadrado and Marko Arnautovic remain unavailable but they can stay unchanged.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Martinez, Thuram

UNAVAILABLE: Cuadrado (Injured), Arnautovic (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

Despite these two having extremely impressive defensive records, it could be quite an entertaining encounter in Bergamo on Saturday evening. Atalanta will view this as a major opportunity to potentially move themselves into the Italian title race. They are facing an Inter side that are methodical in the way they go about their business but do have the ability to consistently create chances with their style of football. Both teams scoring looks the way to go for this one.

BETTING TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
