ATALANTA PREVIEW: BETTER BERGAMASCI

Last season, in his eighth year in charge of the club, Gian Piero Gasperini led Atalanta to their second ever major trophy as they won the UEFA Europa League in Dublin against Bayer Leverkusen in the final. They have had to rebuild slightly over the summer due to the departures of and injuries to key players.

The Bergamasci come into this one on the back of that aforementioned 3-0 victory over Shakhtar with goals scored by Berat Djimsiti, Ademola Lookman and Raoul Bellanova. They have, though, started slowly in Serie A so far this season with just two victories in their opening six matches.

GENOA PREVIEW: SLIDING GENOA

2006 FIFA World Cup winning striker Alberto Gilardino remains in charge of a Genoa side that are attempting to perform in difficult circumstances due to the ongoing issues of their ownership group, 777 Partners. The Genovese had started steadily but now begin the weekend sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places.

The visitors have won just one of their opening six Serie A games, collecting just a solitary point from their last four matches in the league whilst also losing to Sampdoria in the derby in the second round of the Coppa Italia. In their most recent outing, Genoa suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Juventus last weekend.

ATALANTA TEAM NEWS: STILL NO SCALVINI & SCAMACCA

Teun Koopmeiners was the crucial departure over the summer but Atalanta are also still missing some key players due to injury with the big ACL issues being Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca.

As well as those two, summer signing Marco Brescianini is also sidelined alongside Matteo Ruggeri with defenders Rafael Toloi and Odilon Kossounou both doubts, too.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi; Godfrey, Djimsiti, Kolasinac; Bellanova, De Roon, Ederson, Juan Cuadrado; Samardzic, De Ketelaere; Lookman

UNAVAILABLE: Scalvini (Injured), Ruggeri (Injured), Brescianini (Injured), Scamacca (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Toloi (Injured), Kossounou (Injured)

GENOA TEAM NEWS: MALINOVSKIY INJURY

Last weekend, in their defeat to Juventus, Ukraine international attacking midfielder Ruslan Malinovskiy suffered a genuinely traumatic broken ankle and will be sidelined for quite some time.

As well as Malinovskiy, both Milan Badelj and Caleb Ekuban are also unavailable with Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Junior Messias both also still doubtful for this one.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Gollini; De Winter, Bani, Vasquez; Zanoli, Frendrup, Thorsby, Miretti, Ahanor; Vitinha, Pinamonti

UNAVAILABLE: Badelj (Injured), Malinovskiy (Injured), Ekuban (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Norton-Cuffy (Injured), Junior Messias (Injured)

ATALANTA VS GENOA PREDICTION

Atalanta have not been as fluent as they pretty much always have been under the management of Gian Piero Gasperini but the Bergamasci did put an improved performance against Bologna last weekend before their hammering of Shakhtar. Genoa were steady at the start of the season and have appeared difficult to beat but the likelihood remains that a comfortable Atalanta win is to be expected, especially given Genoa’s decline in their performance level.
