THE LOWDOWN

WERDER BREMEN

Werder Bremen snapped their run of three straight draws last weekend with one of their most memorable results in a number of years. Away at Bayern Munich, so often a fixture of pain from a Werder point of view, Ole Werner’s men dug in and hit the reigning champions with a classic smash and grab, pulling off a stunning 0-1 victory.

Mitchell Weiser was the hero for Werder, his second half goal proving the difference at the Allianz Arena. That win means that it’s now five games unbeaten for Werder in the Bundesliga, parachuting them to 13th-place in the table as it stands.

FREIBURG

Freiburg got back to winning ways last time out in a 3-2 thriller against Hoffenheim, following a draw and loss from the two matches prior to that. After blowing a two-goal lead, relief was the appropriate word for Freiburg, who netted what turned out to be the winning goal with five minutes remaining.

Going into this latest round of Bundesliga fixtures, Freiburg are three points adrift of the top six and five points adrift of the Champions League spots. This shows that getting into top four isn’t insurmountable as of yet if Freiburg can put a run of positive results together.

THE PREDICTION

Needing a positive result to get back into the top six, Freiburg will face a serious challenge to achieve it when considering Werder Bremen’s recent Bundesliga form. A close match is expected here with little likely to separate the two across 90 minutes. It would be no surprise if both ended up cancelling each other out and with that in mind, backing a draw may well wind up being the smart play to make.

BETTING TIP: DRAW
