THE LOWDOWN

BOCHUM

It’s no shame to be on the end of a Bayern Munich battering, this has been the fate of many a Bundesliga club down the years. But Bochum’s defending at the Allianz Arena last weekend left plenty to be desired as Harry Kane and co combined to rip the visitors apart. In the end, Bochum were thrashed by seven goals to nil.

Such a loss proved hugely damaging to Bochum’s goal difference, although they remain above the bottom three with a two point cushion as all the teams below them ended up losing in the same round of fixtures, including Borussia Monchengladbach, who trail them by a single point.

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

Borussia Monchengladbach failed to build upon their second point of the season accrued away to Darmstadt, as they went down 0-1 against a strong RB Leipzig side. Their inability to score goals at home have really hampered Gerardo Seoane’s men, having now drawn a blank in consecutive home fixtures, losing 0-1 on both occasions.

To make matters worse, Gladbach are yet to pick up a single point at home so far this season, their two draws coming on the road vs Darmstadt and earlier in the campaign against Augsburg. With three winnable fixtures now on the horizon, starting here away at Bochum, things simply must change for them.

THE TEAM NEWS

BOCHUM

Centre-back Keven Schlotterbeck is battling to recover from a shoulder problem in time to play a part here. However, striker Lys Mousset, goalkeeper Michael Esser and defender Mohammed Tolba will all definitely be missing for Thomas Letsch’s side.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Riemann; Masovic, Ordets, Bernardo; Gamboa, Bero, Losilla, Stoger, Wittek; Asano, Hofmann

UNAVAILABLE: Esser (Injured), Mousset (Injured), Tolba (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Schlotterbeck (Injured)

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH

First-choice goalkeeper Jonas Omlin remains out for Gladbach, who will be also be without Stefan Lainer through illness. A foot injury renders Tomas Cvancara doubtful, although forward Alassane Plea will be hoping to be passed fit enough for a place on the bench at least.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Nicolas; Elvedi, Itakura, Wober; Scally, Reitz, Weigl, Kone, Netz; Ngoumou, Jordan

UNAVAILABLE: Lainer (Illness), Omlin (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Cvancara (Injured), Plea (Fitness)

THE PREDICTION

Having home advantage, Bochum will no doubt see them as a golden opportunity to secure their first victory of the season against a side who like them, are yet to record a Bundesliga win in 2023-24 so far. With that in mind, expect the hosts to push bodies forward at every opportunity to take the game to Borussia Monchengladbach offensively. However, this may well lead to extra space opening up in their own half which Gladbach are more than capable of taking advantage of, making both teams to score well worth backing.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
