SCHALKE 04
- Schalke 04 had managed to stop the rot with two consecutive draws in Bundesliga but they could not build on those efforts as they were defeated by Eintracht Frankfurt in midweek as their run without a win continued.
- Schalke have now failed to win all of their last 14 matches after falling two goals down in Frankfurt and although Weston McKennie pulled one back, they were unable to get on level terms.
- There is a long list of injured players heading into this contest for David Wagner to deal with but they are at least buoyed by the return of Daniel Caligiuri from suspension as Schalke aim to end their home campaign with a victory.
WOLFSBURG
- Wolfsburg’s grasp on sixth place was loosened by their poor showing away at Borussia Monchengladbach in midweek and that 3-0 loss has allowed Hoffenheim to draw level on points with them.
- Freiburg are also just a point behind as the race for the Europa League intensifies with Wolfsburg unable to respond to going behind in just the 10th minute of the contest with Gladbach.
- Josuha Guilavogui will be missing for this trip after collecting his fifth booking of the campaign in midweek while Jerome Roussillon continues to struggle with a calf injury despite been named on the bench in Tuesday’s game.
THE PREDICTION
Wolfsburg put in a poor performance when they could not afford to as
they fell to a big loss at Borussia Monchengladbach during the week and
they must respond or risk conceding sixth spot in the table. They face
Schalke 04 in what is a must win game for the visitors with champions
Bayern Munich last up for Wolfsburg so this may be their last chance to
pick up points this season. Schalke are without a win in 14 matches and
that run does not look like ending any time soon with Wolfsburg able to
return to winning ways to place David Wagner’s job under further
pressure.
