THE TEAM NEWS
BORUSSIA DORTMUND
- Borussia Dortmund maintained their superb form in the Bundesliga with a straightforward success on the road at Wolfsburg at the weekend but know they must be at their best if they are to secure a pivotal victory over Bayern Munich as they attempt to extend their winning streak.
- Dortmund made it six straight wins and nine victories from their last 10 in the league with their 0-2 victory on Saturday thanks to a goals in either half from Raphael Guerreiro and Achraf Hakimi.
- Jadon Sancho was once again restricted to an appearance as a substitute for Dortmund but having provided an assist for Hakimi’s strike, he will hope to come into the starting XI for this contest while the hosts will be sweating over the fitness of Mats Hummels after he picked up a knock against Wolfsburg.
BAYERN MUNICH
- Bayern Munich put five goals past Eintracht Frankfurt in their clash at the weekend but did suffer a slight scare after conceding two goals in quick succession when leading 3-0 and were forced to respond in order to put the game to bed.
- Goals from Leon Goretzka, Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski looked to be firing Bayern to a comfortable win until the hosts twice conceded from corners before Alphonso Davies and an own goal put the result beyond doubt.
- Bayern will be concerned by their inability to deal with those set-pieces but are now on a 13-match unbeaten run in the Bundesliga with 12 wins over that period and in their quest to maintain that run, they may have to do without Thiago and Serge Gnabry who are both struggling with knocks.
THE PREDICTION
Der Klassiker has fallen at a hugely important time of the season and
could have a big say in the title race with Bayern Munich heading into
the clash with a four-point lead over Borussia Dortmund. Both teams
enter the mouth-watering contest in brilliant form which sets it up
perfectly. Dortmund have been on the receiving end of some heavy defeats
against Bayern in their recent matches but they will be determined to
avoid the same fate here in what should be an end-to-end game with
plenty of goals.
