TOULOUSE PREVIEW: BEING SMARTER

In the 2021/22 campaign, Toulouse returned to the top-flight of French football and then, in their first season back in Ligue 1, they also went and won the Coupe de France which meant the RedBird Capital owned club, smartly run, had qualified for the UEFA Europa League but it was way ahead of schedule.

They appeared to be sliding last season before their elimination from the competition at the hands of Benfica and then majorly improved. They have started steadily in this campaign with back-to-back draws; firstly a goalless draw at home to Nantes on the opening day before ending up at one apiece against Nice at the Allianz Riviera last weekend.

MARSEILLE PREVIEW: NEEDING TO BE SMARTER

The appointment of former Sassuolo, Shakhtar Donetsk and Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi signalled the start of yet another revolution at Olympique de Marseille and the famous club have embarked upon yet another busy summer of spending that has prompted many to suggest they could be in a title race this season.

Those shouts of a title race were affirmed on the opening day of the campaign as they went away to last season’s third place side Stade Brest and dispatched of them by five goals to one but the old Marseille returned at Stade Velodrome last weekend as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Stade de Reims.

TOULOUSE VS MARSEILLE PREDICTION

Toulouse, as mentioned, have started steadily. Carlos Martinez Novell intends to play what is a progressive, possession-dominant style of football but that can often be quite ineffective in attack. However, Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille are likely to offer good space to any team they face so most games are going to be entertaining and this could be the one game involving Toulouse that turns into a bit of a thriller.

TOULOUSE VS MARSEILLE TIP: OVER 2.5 GOALS
