THE LOWDOWN

STRASBOURG

Patrick Vieira remains in charge of Alsace-based Strasbourg but they are significantly underperforming this season as they languish in the bottom-half of the Ligue 1 table. There have been regular and consistent protests from supporters throughout the campaign as a result of last summer’s takeover by BlueCo, essentially making Strasbourg a feeder club to Chelsea.

They did, though, head into the March international break on the back of a much-needed and impressive 3-1 defeat of Nantes in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago, before the March international break. That victory came on the back of a six-match winless run of form across all competitions.

RENNES

Ever since the re-appointment of Julian Stephan during the November international break, who replaced former Olympique Lyonnais boss Bruno Genesio, Stade Rennais have been magnificent in Ligue 1 as they move into the top-half of the table and very much in contention for a top six finish and potential European qualification.

Rennes come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Olympique de Marseille in their most recent outing, a couple of weeks ago, before the November international break, with goals from Martin Terrier and Benjamin Bourigeaud. They have now suffered just one defeat in their last 11 matches in the league.

THE PREDICTION

This one is expected to be quite an entertaining encounter at Stade de la Meinau Strasbourg. Strasbourg have been really underwhelming and they have generally underperformed throughout the campaign but they have scored and conceded over a goal per game in their 26 matches. Stade Rennais are also a very entertaining team, too, with only two teams, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco, having scored more than them. As a result of that, both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
