THE LOWDOWN

STRASBOURG

Over the summer, Strasbourg suffered what their supporters’ believe to be the indignity of simply becoming a feeder club to Chelsea with Clearlake Capital taking over the club. The famous and storied Alsace club managed to sign some impressive players over the summer with that investment, though, as well as appointing former Crystal Palace and Nice manager Patrick Vieira.

They have started with generally inconsistent and unconvincing performances so far this season. In their opening seven matches of the season, Strasbourg have managed three wins, a draw and three defeats so far. They were beaten by a struggling Lens side in their most recent outing, last weekend, losing by a goal to nil at home.

NANTES

After winning the Coupe de France in 2022, Nantes reached the final of that competition once again in 2023, combining that with a run into the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League. Those cup runs, though, were potentially detrimental to their league form as they only just narrowly avoided relegation down to Ligue 2.

The league therefore being reduced from 20 to 18 teams means there is an even bigger risk of them being relegated. They, under the management of Pierre Aristouy, started this year slowly, too, before an up-turn in form which came to an abrupt end last weekend as they were comfortably defeated by three goals to one away to Stade Rennais.

THE TEAM NEWS

STRASBOURG

Patrick Vieira has no new or fresh injury concerns or suspension issues so the home team will be able to name an unchanged eleven for this weekend’s encounter.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Sels; Senaya, Nyamsi, Perrin, Delaine; Diarra, Doukoure, Deminguet; Angelo, Emegha, Bakwa

UNAVAILABLE: Fila (Injured), Chahiri (Injured), Bastian (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

NANTES

Nantes are missing several players for this weekend’s trip to Alsace and they are without striker Mostafa Mohamed, who is suspended for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Lafont; Duverne, Cumart, Castelletto, Merlin; Chirivella, Augusto; Mollet, Simon, Moutoussamy; Marquinhos

UNAVAILABLE: Mohamed (Suspended), Ganago (Injured), Centonze (Injured), Zeze (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

These have both started with some inconsistent performances and results so far this season and are separated by just two points after seven matches so could be perceived as being fairly evenly matched. The home team, however, have much higher expectations after the summer investment and Patrick Vieira’s side are beginning to get some fluency. Despite one win in their last four matches, they remain good value and, with their home advantage, a double chance bet in their favour looks the way to go for this one.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – STRASBOURG TO WIN OR DRAW
