THE LOWDOWN

MONTPELLIER

Ever since the summer when Ligue 1 was reduced from 20 to 18 teams, Montpellier Herault have been one of the leading contenders to potentially slip into the second-tier with the 2011 league winners treading water in the last few seasons and they do begin the weekend involved in the relegation battle.

They come into this one, though, on the back of a vital defeat of an out of form Nice in their most recent outing at the Allianz Riviera last weekend with Teji Savanier scoring a 42nd minute winner in that match. That much-needed victory was just their second win in their last eight matches across all competitions.

PSG

Paris Saint-Germain come into this one on the back of actually a much-needed victory in the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France in midweek as Kylian Mbappe, Fabian Ruiz and Lucas Beraldo all scored in their 3-1 defeat of Nice themselves. They are in the hunt for a potential treble with a 4-1 aggregate defeat of Real Sociedad in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League recently.

In the league, the Parisiens begin this weekend sitting ten points clear of Stade Brest at the top-of-the-table but Luis Enrique’s defending champions are actually without a win in their last three Ligue 1 matches, being held to a 1-1 draw against Rennes and then a goalless draw in Monaco before finishing up at two-all at Parc des Princes against Reims last weekend.

THE TEAM NEWS

MONTPELLIER

Montpellier only have one injury concern for this weekend’s visit of the champions-elect with only Axel Gueguin unavailable for the home team.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Lecomte; Hefti, Omeragic, Kouyate, Sylla; Ferri, Chotard; Nordin, Savanier, Al-Taamari; Khazri

UNAVAILABLE: Gueguin (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

PSG

Luis Enrique has several injury issues but he is also consistently resting Kylian Mbappe in Ligue 1. With the international break coming up, the France captain will likely start.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Hakimi, Mukiele, Danilo Pereira, Hernandez; Vitinha, Ugarte, Fabian Ruiz; Dembele, Goncalo Ramos, Mbappe

UNAVAILABLE: Marquinhos (Injured), Skriniar (Injured), Kimpembe (Injured), Kurzawa (Injured), Sergio Rico (Injured), Asensio (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

Despite Montpellier’s much-needed victory last week, the hosts are just one point ahead of Nantes in the relegation playoff place before this weekend’s fixtures. They are, though, truly one of the most difficult teams to watch in France. PSG don’t need to win really but they could do with ending a three-match drawing streak. Kylian Mbappe keeps being rested in the league but will likely be available and the Parisiens should come out on top quite comfortably.

TIP: PSG TO WIN
