THE LOWDOWN

MONACO

The principality club of AS Monaco will be challenging for European competition once again this season after surprisingly missing out in the last campaign. Under the management of former Borussia Monchengladbach manager Adi Hutter, Monaco have spent well over the summer and started the campaign in entertaining fashion.

The hosts began the campaign in a high scoring but effective manner and that has continued throughout these early stages. Their six matches so far have consisted of 23 goals with 15 scored but they did suffer a first loss of the campaign last weekend, going down by a goal to nil at home to an impressive looking Nice side.

MARSEILLE

Olympique de Marseille went through yet another, and quite an unnecessary, transition period over the summer with the club moving on from Igor Tudor and bringing in Marcelino, who has very different tactical ideas. The southern club also added some intriguing players such as Iliman Ndiaye and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

An early implosion this season means that Marcelino has already left the club despite a relatively decent start to the campaign, marred by a loss to Panathinaikos in UEFA Champions League qualification. They were hammered by four goals to nil in ‘Le Classique’ against Paris Saint-Germain last weekend.

THE TEAM NEWS

MONACO

Adi Hutter’s Monaco are without several key players for this weekend’s ‘sort of’ derby with Russian international Aleksandar Golovin out suspended for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Kohn; Singo, Zakaria, Magassa; Vanderson, Camara, Fofana, Henrique; Minamino, Golovin; Balogun

UNAVAILABLE: Golovin (Suspended), Ben Seghir (Injured), Salisu (Injured), Diop (Injured), Embolo (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

MARSEILLE

Pape Gueye is in the middle of a three-month suspension with two key injury absentees, too, as Geoffrey Kondogbia and Ismaila Sarr missing for this weekend.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Lopez; Mbemba, Gigot, Balerdi; Clauss, Rongier, Ounahi, Veretout, Lodi; Oliveira, Aubameyang

UNAVAILABLE: Gueye (Suspended), Kondogbia (Injured), Sarr (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Monaco suffered a defeat in the Derby de la Cote d’Azur against Francesco Farioli’s Nice. Now they have another derby, of sorts, against Marseille. They have been very entertaining to watch so far this season and now face a Marseille side in a needless self-inflicted state of flux. Victory is often too unpredictable for either of these two sides but they are often involved in high scoring matches so another one of those is surely to be expected.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE & OVER 2.5 GOALS
