THE LOWDOWN

MARSEILLE

Over the summer, Olympique de Marseille had another rebuild with Igor Tudor replaced by Marcelino. It appeared to be another fairly pointless and unnecessary rebuild and evolution with a complete shift in style and the southerners seeking new signings, such as the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Marcelino was sacked earlier on in the season after another tumultuous start to a campaign for Marseille. Replaced by Gennaro Gattuso, l’OM come into this on the back of their game against Lyon being postponed last weekend. That means their last four Ligue 1 matches have consisted of just one win and three defeats.

LILLE

Last season, Lille finished fifth in Ligue 1 and managed to qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League, under the management of former Roma and Shakhtar Donetsk boss, Paulo Fonseca. The northerners have been steady, once again, and begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting inside the top four.

The visitors come into this on the back of a comfortable and very impressive 2-0 defeat of Monaco in their most recent outing, last weekend. They are now unbeaten in their last six matches across all competitions with four victories and a draw in that time. They play an enterprising and entertaining style of football.

THE PREDICTION

Olympique de Marseille have been significantly underperforming after quite a bright start to the season with Gennaro Gattuso already under pressure at Stade Velodrome. They have still remained relatively entertaining with 12 goals scored and 12 goals conceded. They now face a Lille side that have been cohesive and improving as the season has gone on, without UEFA Europa Conference League influencing them too negatively just yet. A double chance bet in favour of the away team looks the way to go for this one.

BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – LILLE TO WIN OR DRAW
