It was a slow-ish start to the season for Olympique Lyonnais but they have begun to eventually turn things back around as they now welcome struggling and newly-promoted Auxerre to Parc OL this weekend.

LYON PREVIEW: PIERRE THE SAGE

Last season, Olympique Lyonnais started the campaign extremely badly and were rock-bottom in early December with the sackings of Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso. The appointment of youth coach Pierre Sage saw them then become the best team in France as they propelled themselves to sixth in Ligue 1 with UEFA Europa League qualification.

After another difficult and bizarre summer transfer window, Lyon started this season poorly but began to turn things around ahead of the October international break. They do come into this one on the back of a defeat at home to Besiktas in midweek after they had hammered Le Havre by four goals to nil last weekend.

AUXERRE PREVIEW: PICKING UP POINTS

Following promotion to the top-flight last season, coached by Christophe Pelissier, Auxerre began their campaign with a 2-1 defeat of Nice on the opening weekend of the campaign and things have not been quite as plain sailing since then but they are continuing to pick up enough points to be competitive.

The visitors have managed two victories in their last three matches as they push away from the bottom three and the danger zone. In their most recent outing, Auxerre returned from the international break with a surprise 2-1 defeat of high flying and in-form Stade de Reims last weekend.

LYON TEAM NEWS: FULLY FIT

For the first time this season ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures, Lyon have a fully fit and available squad for this weekend’s clash with Auxerre so they will be able to name an unchanged eleven.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Perri; Maitland-Niles, Clinton Mata, Niakhate, Alan Vinicius; Veretout, Caqueret, Tolisso; Cherki, Lacazette, Fofana

AUXERRE TEAM NEWS: NOTHING FRESH

There are no fresh injury concerns for Auxerre to deal with ahead of this weekend’s trip to Parc OL as they remain without the likes of Paul Joly, Lasso Coulibaly and Oussoumane Camara for this one.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Leon; Diomande, Jubal, Osho; Hoever, Raveloson, Danois, Mensah; Perrin, Traore; Aye

UNAVAILABLE: Joly (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured), Camara (Injured)

LYON VS AUXERRE PREDICTION

On paper this one does appear to be a bit of a lobsided affair with Lyon the overwhelming favourites, especially with their home advantage. Their defeat to Besiktas in midweek did show that they still have some vulnerabilities but they are coming up against an Auxerre side that may well see this as a free hit after their recent victories either side of the break. A high-scoring and entertaining home win would appear the likeliest outcome for this one at Parc OL.

LYON VS AUXERRE TIP: LYON TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
