THE LOWDOWN

LE HAVRE

Following promotion last season, Le Havre begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top-half after an impressive opening 13 matches of the 2023/24 Ligue 1 campaign. They have suffered just three defeats so far this season with seven draws highlighting their capability to avoid defeat and good defensive work.

They have conceded just 13 goals in 13 games and come into this one on the back of back-to-back goalless draws either side of the November international break against Nantes and Monaco, respectively. Four of their last five matches have now finished 0-0 with a 2-1 defeat of Toulouse in the middle of that run.

PSG

Defending champions and league leaders Paris Saint-Germain faced a tough test in midweek as they only just about grabbed their UEFA Champions League destiny back into their own hands with a 98th minute Kylian Mbappe penalty as they shared a 1-1 draw with a dogged and determined Newcastle United side at the Parc des Princes.

Luis Enrique’s Parisiens have really found their stride in Ligue 1, though, with high-scoring victories either side of the November international break against top five opposition. Firstly they defeated Will Still’s Stade de Reims before coming back and thrashing supposed title rivals Monaco by five goals to two, last weekend.

THE PREDICTION

Under the management of Luka Elsner, Le Havre are really overperforming their expectations and will even be thinking of challenging towards the top-half by the winter break. They will, though, be expected to cop a heavy beating in this one. PSG, frustrated by being held to a draw by Newcastle, have found their groove domestically and a heavy, comfortable win for the defending champions is to be expected at Stade Oceane.

BETTING TIP: PSG TO WIN -1 HANDICAP
