Following promotion to the top-flight in over 15 years last season, Le Havre begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table after an impressive first-half of the campaign, under the management of former Slovenian international midfielder and Standard Liege boss, Luka Elsner.
The home team come into this one on the back of a hard-fought 2-1 defeat of Caen in the Round of 64 of the Coupe de France in their most recent outing, last weekend. That fairly unconvincing victory followed on from suffering three defeats in four matches in Ligue 1 before the winter break as they drift down the table.
LYON
It has been a bit of a nightmare-ish season for Olympique Lyonnais with the seven-time champions of France still very much involved in a relegation battle onto their third manager of the campaign already but they did head into the winter break on the back of some much-improved form, climbing out of the bottom three.
Laurent Blanc and Fabio Grosso were both shown the door in the first-half of the season but Pierre Sage, who initially came in on a caretaker basis, has managed to get a tune out of his Lyon side. They comfortably defeated Pontarlier by three goals to nil in the cup last weekend after to nil wins against Monaco, Nantes and Toulouse before the winter break.

THE PREDICTION
Le Havre’s relatively successful first-half of the campaign was built upon an impressive defensive record, but they did sacrifice a fair bit in attack for that. Only two teams, Toulouse and Clermont, have scored fewer than them so far this season. They now face a Lyon side that, following the appointment of Pierre Sage, have built their much-improved form upon a basis and foundation of clean sheets so Lyon edging a low-scoring affair would appear a good bet for this one.
