ANGERS PREVIEW: SET FOR A STRUGGLE

Under the management of the exciting managerial prospect Alexandre Dujeux, who is in his first ever full-time managerial role, Angers gained automatic promotion back to the French top-flight last season but it has been a difficult summer transfer window and they have found life in Ligue 1 quite difficult upon their return.

On the opening day of the campaign, Angers hosted a new look Lens in Will Still’s first game in charge and they suffered a slender 1-0 loss in what was an even contest before they then travelled too Stade Pierre-Mauroy to face Lille and, again, it was relatively even and slender as they lost 2-0 win a late clinching goal scored by Mohamed Bayo.

NICE PREVIEW: FRANCK HAISE IS THE ODD ONE OUT

Franck Haise departed Lens in the summer to make the long trip to the south coast to the Allianz Riviera and he is an excellent coach that did excellent things at Lens but he has arrived at a disorganised club that, despite their INEOS ownership who have now turned attention to Manchester United, have been quite bizarrely run in terms of recruitment.

They have started their 2024/25 Ligue 1 season by managing to collect just one point in their opening two matches of the season. On the opening day, they suffered a 2-1 defeat to newly-promoted Auxerre before then being held to a 1-1 draw by Toulouse in their first home game last weekend.

ANGERS VS NICE PREDICTION

Despite starting with two defeats, Angers will believe there were mitigating factors with two slender and even contests against two sides that appear like they may have much more stable starts this season than they did last year so there actual plan has worked to an extent. Given that point and the fact that Nice are extremely underwhelming at this stage as they get to grips with Franck Haise’s tactical beliefs, this one may not be overly enjoyable for the neutral.

ANGERS VS NICE TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
