THE LOWDOWN

TOTTENHAM

Ange Postecoglou will not come under any major pressure this season if Tottenham Hotspur finish outside of the top four and fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League as a consequence but the former Celtic boss may be questioned a fair bit for producing a fairly underwhelming and trophyless finish to what had began as a very exciting campaign.

Spurs come into this on the back of being pegged back twice by Everton at Goodison Park last weekend, eventually being forced to share a 2-2 draw with The Toffees as a result of a late Jarrad Branthwaite equaliser. That was the fourth time in their last five Premier League matches whereby they have conceded twice in the match.

BRIGHTON

Dealing with European football and trying to maintain a top seven challenge was expected to be difficult for a Brighton and Hove Albion side that do not have the experience for it but Roberto De Zerbi’s Seagulls begin the 24th match day of the 2023/24 Premier League season sitting just a point outside of the aforementioned top seven and just two behind Manchester United in sixth.

They come into this one on the back of a thrilling and much-needed 4-1 annihilation of their arch-rivals Crystal Palace in their most recent outing, last weekend. Lewis Dunk scored early on in that game before Jack Hinshelwood and Facundo Buonanotte made it three before half-time and then Joao Pedro scored late on to round off the victory after Jean-Philippe Mateta had got a goal back for Palace.

THE TEAM NEWS

TOTTENHAM

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that both Yves Bissouma and Son Heung-min will be available for selection this weekend after Mali were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations and South Korea were beaten by Jordan in the AFC Asian Cup.

The hosts will remain without injured attacker Manor Solomon but midfielder Giovani Lo Celso could return to the squad after training this week.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Bentancur; Johnson, Maddison, Son; Richarlison

UNAVAILABLE: Sessegnon (Injured), Solomon (Injured)

BRIGHTON

Roberto De Zerbi's assistant coach, Andrea Maldera, took pre-match press conference duties and he confirmed that Joao Pedro will be missing this weekend with a hamstring injury and there is no clarity on how long he will be unavailable for.

The Seagulls remain without key attackers such as Solly March and Julio Enciso. They do welcome back Kaoru Mitoma, though, after Japan's elimination from the AFC Asian Cup.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Verbruggen; Van Hecke, Dunk, Igor; Hinshelwood, Gross, Gilmour, Lamptey; Buonanotte, Mitoma; Ferguson

UNAVAILABLE: Veltman (Injured), Milner (Injured), March (Injured), Enciso (Injured), Adingra (International duty), Joao Pedro (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Saturday afternoon presents a game between two of the more attacking managers in the Premier League as Ange Postecoglou faces off against Roberto De Zerbi. The idea that this could be a fun game is not just a theoretical one, either, with the reverse fixture between these two producing six goals at the AMEX Stadium as Brighton defeated Spurs by four goals to two just before the New Year. Another encounter full of goals and in which both teams score would appear very likely, especially with the open and front foot nature of the two sides.

TIP: OVER 2.5 GOALS
