THE LOWDOWN

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Ange Postecoglu was very irritated by decisions that went against his Tottenham Hotspur side as they suffered a 4-2 defeat at the AMEX Stadium against Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday evening. Brighton went 4-0 up in that game with a brace of penalties from Joao Pedro, as well as goals by Jack Hinshelwood and Pervis Estupinan.

Spurs had recently gone winless in five matches and then enjoyed three successive victories at the start of this month as they continue to challenge for a top four spot and potential UEFA Champions League qualification. They have been entertaining throughout the season with 67 goals coming in their 19 matches so far.

AFC BOURNEMOUTH

After a slow start to the 2023/24 campaign, AFC Bournemouth have enjoyed a really impressive couple of months as The Cherries launch themselves away from the bottom three and the relegation places and up towards the top-half. They come into this one on the back of some more impressive results.

Andoni Iraola’s southerners hammered Fulham by three goals to nil on Boxing Day with goals coming from Justin Kluivert, Dominic Solanke and Luis Sinisterra. That made it four successive victories for the visitors and, with a game-in-hand, they are now just a few points off challenging for the top seven and the European spots.

THE TEAM NEWS

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Dejan Kulusevski collected a fifth yellow card of the season so the Sweden international attacker will have to miss this weekend’s visit of Bournemouth due to suspension. He will join Yves Bissouma on Tottenham’s list of suspended players for this weekend.

Oliver Skipp is expected to return after suffering from a recent knock but the home team will continue to be without the likes of key players such as Micky van de Ven and James Maddison due to injury.

QUESTIONABLE:

AFC BOURNEMOUTH

Hamed Junior Traore has missed recent matches due to an undisclosed illness but Andoni Iraola has now revealed that to be malaria with the Ivorian international now released from hospital but will be out for some time.

Lewis Cook could return to the first-team squad this weekend but the likes of Ryan Fredericks, Tyler Adams and Lloyd Kelly remain unavailable, as well as key Hungary international defender Milos Kerkez.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Neto; Smith, Zabarnyi, Senesi, Ouattara; Scott, Christie; Semenyo, Kluivert, Tavernier; Solanke

UNAVAILABLE: Kerkez (Injured), Fredericks (Injured), Adams (Injured), Kelly (Injured), Traore (Illness), Randolph (Injured), Marcondes (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Cook (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Ange Postecoglu’s men have been enjoyable to watch this season but, despite consistently impressive performances and results, they have remained a little susceptible at the back and that was most definitely shown up in midweek. They now face a Bournemouth side that are arguably the most impressive team in the division at the moment so the visitors will be confident of going and getting at their opposition. As a result, both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
