THE LOWDOWN

SHEFFIELD UTD

Sheffield Utd put in battling display against Man City last week and were mere minutes from holding the reigning champions to a draw, so Paul Heckinbottom will see that performance as a springboard for his side as they seek their first points of the campaign.

The Blades made it to half-time with the score goalless last week, surviving a missed Erling Haaland penalty in the process, and held out until just after the hour mark when Haaland made amends to put Pep Guardiola's men in front. However, five minutes from time Jayden Bogle levelled matters to send the home fans into raptures. It was to prove short-lived though, as Rodri bagged the winner for the visitors with a thunderous strike.

Wednesday night then saw Sheffield Utd exit the League Cup on penalties to Lincoln City, after normal time had ended goalless.

EVERTON

There was late heartbreak for Everton last weekend as Wolves claimed a win in the closing minutes of the pair's clash at Goodison Park, which leaves the Toffees pointless after three games and in dire need of improvement.

Everton's performance against Wolves was not without merit and Sean Dyche was quick to point out some of the positives, but a wastefulness in front of goals was once again their undoing and they were made to pay when Sasa Kalajdzic headed home in the 87th minute.

The Toffees at least progressed in the League Cup on Wednesday, with Beto and Arnaut Danjuma helping them come from behind to defeat League Two side Doncaster Rovers.

THE TEAM NEWS

SHEFFIELD UTD

Cameron Archer made his Blades debut in the League Cup midweek and will be considered here, while new signing Luke Thomas' arrival is timely given that the left-sided Ben Osborn is set to be out for some time.

Sheffield Utd's injury list has eased somewhat recently, but there are still six players currently absent.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Foderingham; Ahmedhodzic, Egan, Robinson; Baldock, Norwood, Souza, Hamer, Thomas; McBurnie, Archer

UNAVAILABLE: Osborn (Injured), Lowe (Injured), Norrington-Davies (Injured), Fleck (Injured), Jebbison (Illness), Brewster (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

EVERTON

Jack Harrison is not yet ready to return but there is better news when it comes to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who Dyche said has a chance of featuring. The Toffees boss may play it safe with his striker though, especially as new signing Beto - who scored in the League Cup midweek- is another option up front.

PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Pickford; Patterson, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Young; Gueye; Garner, Doucoure, Onana, Danjuma; Beto

UNAVAILABLE: Coleman (Injured), Harrison (Fitness), Dele (Injured), Iwobi (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Mykolenko (Injured), Gomes (Injured), McNeil (Fitness), Calvert-Lewin (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Two sides without a point to their name meet here in what some are already billing as a relegation dogfight. For Everton, their main issue - which was also a problem last season - has been putting the ball in the net, while Sheffield Utd appear to be simply lacking quality where it matters. A low-scoring affair is expected then, with neither side wanting to give an inch, so under 2.5 goals is the prediction for this Saturday lunchtime kick-off.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
