There is an argument that can be reasonably made that neither side are aware of just how good they are this season with some unconvincing performances masked by both sides picking up points throughout the campaign.

NEWCASTLE PREVIEW: UNCONVINCING MAGPIES

There are suggestions that Eddie Howe is not overly happy with the current overhaul and changes going on behind the scenes at Newcastle United and the general discontent and uncertainty may well be being reflected on the pitch with the Magpies having managed just one win in their last five matches in the Premier League.

In their final game before the October international break, former Everton forward Anthony Gordon missed a penalty for Newcastle in what was eventually a goalless draw against Everton at Goodison Park. That frustrating result did follow a 1-1 draw against defending champions Manchester City the week before at St James’ Park, though.

BRIGHTON PREVIEW: DISCOVERING WHAT BRIGHTON ARE

Brighton and Hove Albion, with the youngest ever permanent manager in Premier League history at the helm in 31-year-old Fabian Hurzeler, have suffered just one defeat in their opening nine matches across all competitions so far this season but there will be a slight concern about their overall performance level.

A couple of weeks ago, the Seagulls ended a four-match winless run in the Premier League by coming from 2-0 down at half-time at home to Tottenham Hotspur to produce a 3-2 victory with second-half strikes from Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and the excellent, in-form former England striker Danny Welbeck.

BRIGHTON TEAM NEWS: JPVH, ADINGRA & RUTTER AVAILABLE

In his pre-match press conference, Fabian Hurzeler has confirmed that defender Jan Paul van Hecke as well as attacking duo Simon Adingra and Georginio Rutter will be available for this weekend.

The Seagulls do still have some long-term absentees, though, with Adam Webster, Matt O’Riley and Joao Pedro all sidelined. James Milner is also expected to be available for this one but does remain a doubt alongside Carlos Baleba.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Veltman, Dunk, Igor, Kadioglu; Hinshelwood, Wieffer; Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma; Welbeck

UNAVAILABLE: Webster (Injured), O’Riley (Injured), March (Injured), Joao Pedro (Injured)

NEWCASTLE VS BRIGHTON PREDICTION

At times during Howe’s tenure, Newcastle have been free flowing and free scoring but the Magpies have struggled for goals throughout this campaign, even only beating League Two side AFC Wimbledon by a goal to nil at St James’ Park in the EFL Cup earlier this month. Fabian Hurzeler will want his Brighton side to sure things up a little at the back having conceded two or more in each of their last four matches across all competitions. Given that, a low-scoring affair may well be a good bet.

NEWCASTLE VS BRIGHTON TIP: UNDER 3.5 GOALS
