THE LOWDOWN

MAN CITY

Man City played out a highly entertaining 4-4 draw with Chelsea before the international break, which Pep Guardiola will see as two dropped points as it allowed his rivals to gain ground on them at the top of the Premier League table.

There have been some memorable meetings between these two teams in the past, and City fans will have fond memories of the last time Liverpool visited the Etihad stadium with Guardiola's men running out 4-1 winners in April.

LIVERPOOL

Liverpool jumped to second in the Premier League table with a 3-0 win over Brentford prior to the international break. and the Reds have still lost just once in the league this season.

Mo Salah was once again the architect of their victory over the Bees, scoring either side of half-time before Diogo Jota added the gloss midway through the second half.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN CITY

There are a number of question marks over personnel after the international break, with Erling Haaland perhaps the chief concern, although the Norwegian has trained and it would be a surprise if he wasn't included in Pep Guardiola's starting line-up.

Mateo Kovacic is likely to face a couple of weeks out, so Manuel Akanji could partner Rodri in the pivot, as he did against Chelsea.

PREDICTED XI (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Walker, Dias, Gvardiol; Rodri, Akanji; Doku, Alvarez, Grealish; Haaland

UNAVAILABLE: Stones (Injured), Kovacic (Injured), De Bruyne (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ederson (Injured), Ake (injured), Gomez (Injured), Nunes (Injured), Haaland (Injured)

LIVERPOOL

Alexis Mac Allister has completed his suspension and is available for selection, but it remains to be seen how Klopp deals with his South American players as he is often cautious with them after the international break - Alisson Becker, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez being the others.

Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch have all taken part in training after recent injury issues.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Nunez, Jota

UNAVAILABLE: Robertson (Injured), Bajcetic (Injured), Thiago (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

There have been some memorable meetings between these two sides in the Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp era, and this promises to be no different as the Premier League resumes with a bang. There haven't been many low-scoring meetings between them in recent times, with eight of the last nine meetings in all competitions seeing both teams find the net. Both are averaging over two goals per game in the Premier League this season, so over 2.5 goals would not be a surprise here.
