THE LOWDOWN

MAN CITY

Pep Guardiola is looking to once again spoil what would be historic seasons for other clubs. Jurgen Klopp is aiming for a fairytale ending at Liverpool, whilst Mikel Arteta searches for Arsenal’s first league title since 2004. However, the Catalan and his Cityzens will be aiming to complete a historic ‘double treble’ in the final couple of months of this season.

City went into the break on the back of a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at the Etihad Stadium with a first-half brace scored by Bernardo Silva. The hosts will move above Arsenal if they win this weekend but they will be reliant on Liverpool dropping points if they are to return to the top-of-the-table on Easter Sunday.

ARSENAL

In 2024, Arsenal have been magnificent in the Premier League as they headed into the March international break sitting at the top-of-the-table. The Gunners were knocked out in the third round of the FA Cup by Liverpool and needed penalties to edge past Porto in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League but they have been immaculate in the league.

Mikel Arteta’s north Londoners come into this one on the back of a hard-fought but potentially pivotal 2-1 defeat of Brentford at the Emirates Stadium with Kai Havertz popping up to score an 86th minute winning goal. They have played eight matches in the league this year, winning all eight and scoring 33 goals in the process.

THE TEAM NEWS

MAN CITY

PREDICTED XI (3-2-4-1): Ederson; Akanji, Dias, Ake; Rodri, Kovacic; Foden, De Bruyne, Alvarez, Grealish; Haaland

UNAVAILABLE: Stones (Injured), Walker (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Ederson (Injured)

ARSENAL

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Kiwior; Odegaard, Jorginho, Rice; Saka, Havertz, Martinelli

UNAVAILABLE: Timber (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Gabriel (Injured), Saka (Injured), Martinelli (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

On Thursday, it was officially a full year in which Rodri had gone without losing a single match he had played in for both club and country. There is therefore a very flawed theory, albeit one that remains prevalent and has some understanding, that a defeat is surely around the corner. Well, if not when the currently rampant league leaders, with a seemingly generally fully fit squad or close to, arrive at the start of what is going to be a mammoth run of clashes with injuries of their own – when else? Backing against City at home is potentially a bit mad but this is a well coached Arsenal side that might just be the team to lay a marker down and exploit something that is potentially missing this season in east Manchester.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – ARSENAL TO WIN OR DRAW
