THE LOWDOWN

LUTON

Luton will finally contest their first home league game of the season after work was completed on a new stand at Kenilworth Road, and it is sure to be a fervent atmosphere on what is a momentous evening for the club.

Last week saw the promoted side outclassed in a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, although the Hatters’ performance was not without merit. Ultimately, they were undone by a Raheem Sterling masterclass, with the former Liverpool and Man City star scoring twice and assisting Nicholas Jackson for his first Chelsea goal. There was a good response on Tuesday though, with Rob Edwards’ men progressing in the League Cup courtesy of a 3-2 victory over Gillingham.

WEST HAM

It’s been an excellent start to the season for West Ham, who sit second in the table heading into this contest with seven points from their first three games, with new signing James Ward-Prowse in particular settling into life nicely at his new club.

The Hammers travelled to in-form Brighton last weekend in what looked like a potential stumbling block, but David Moyes’ men were the better side throughout. Goals from Ward-Prowse, Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio did the damage, with Pascal Gross’ goal for the hosts little more than a consolation.

THE TEAM NEWS

LUTON

Rob Edwards is working on bringing in some more faces to the club but that is likely to come after this fixture. No fresh injuries have been reported so the trio of Gabriel Osho, Dan Potts and Jordan Clark are the only known absentees, with Osho expected back at some point in September.

The majority of Edwards’ XI was rotated for the midweek League Cup tie, but he is likely to revert back to the team that faced Chelsea last Friday.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Kaminski; Burke, Lockyer, Bell; Kabore, Chong, Nakamba, Barkley, Giles; Adebayo, Morris

UNAVAILABLE: Osho (Injured), Potts (Injured), Clark (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

WEST HAM

Nayef Aguerd has completed his suspension so Moyes now has a decision to make regarding whether he replaces Angelo Ogbonna at centre-back. Further forward, Tomas Soucek will sit this one out after suffering concussion against Brighton, and that could pave the way for Said Benrahma to return to the XI should Lucas Paqueta adopt a more central role.

New signing Mohammed Kudus is fit and available, and he could well take to the field at some point.

PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Areola; Coufal, Zouma, Aguerd, Emerson; Alvarez; Bowen, Paqueta, Ward-Prowse, Benrahma; Antonio

UNAVAILABLE: Mavropanos (Fitness), Soucek (Concussion)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

The Luton fans will be in fine voice as they welcome West Ham for their first home league of the season, and the Hatters will certainly need that boost given that they have lost both their Premier League games convincingly so far. Unfortunately for the promoted side, they run into a West Ham team who have started the season superbly with the Hammers sitting pretty near the top of the table coming into this contest. The host will of course be motivated to perform in front of the Kenilworth Road faithful though, so this promises to be an entertaining affair with over 2.5 goals scored.

TIP: OVER 2.5 GOALS
