THE LOWDOWN

LIVERPOOL

If it wasn’t famously Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Liverpool then a fair argument could be made that the Reds have actually overperformed expectation this year as they finish it with a trophy and UEFA Champions League qualification. However, the reality is, the Klopp reign could well finish with a bit of a whimper.

Their most recent outing saw them share a 2-2 draw with West Ham United at the London Stadium last weekend, following on from a 2-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park in Klopp’s final Merseyside derby. They have now managed just four victories in their last ten matches across all competitions as their hopes of a quadruple get ruthlessly crushed.

TOTTENHAM

Now, in contrast, Ange Postecoglou has likely built up enough good will with Tottenham Hotspur supporters to mean that their significant underperformance since the autumn has not really been met with the vitriol it would have done if perhaps Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte, Nuno Espirito Santo or Cristian Stellini was in charge.

No team has ever led the league title after ten matches and then finished outside of the top four in the Premier League but with four games to go and now just one game-in-hand, Spurs sit seven points adrift of Aston Villa in fourth after their lacklustre display in midweek saw them comfortably beaten by two goals to nil by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

THE TEAM NEWS

LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp has a couple of new issues for this weekend. One of the biggest issues is that club captain Virgil van Dijk is a doubt but he is hoping to partially train before the clash with Tottenham.

The Reds’ boss has confirmed that the situation between him and Mohamed Salah at West Ham last weekend means they are ‘completely resolved’ with Conor Bradley also back in training, too.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Gomez, Robertson; Mac Allister, Endo, Szoboszlai; Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz

UNAVAILABLE: Matip (Injured), Thiago (Injured), Diogo Jota (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Van Dijk (Injured)

TOTTENHAM

In his pre-match press conference, Ange Postecoglou has said it is ‘hard to say’ whether there will be any changed to the squad due to the ‘short turnaround’ between matches.

He did say he didn’t there would be anything ‘significant’ so it is expected to be the case they simply remain without the likes of Destiny Udogie, Ben Davies and Timo Werner.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Pedro Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Emerson Royal; Bissouma, Sarr; Kulusevski, Maddison, Johnson; Son

UNAVAILABLE: Forster (Injured), Davies (Injured), Udogie (Injured), Sessegnon (Injured), Solomon (Injured), Werner (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

This is a really unpredictable one because both teams have underperformed a fair bit in the last month and a half or so. Liverpool cannot necessarily be trusted to put anyone to bed at the moment with goals going in at both ends, whilst Tottenham’s defensive numbers are truly awful for a side that have defenders of the quality of Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie. A high-scoring game with plenty of flaws and mistakes seems a good bet.
