THE LOWDOWN
LIVERPOOL
- Liverpool will have been disappointed to scored three goals away at Brentford last weekend and still not manage to win, drawing 3-3 with the Bees although their reaction was excellent as they thrashed Porto 1-5 in their midweek Champions League fixture.
- Trent Alexander-Arnold missed out through injury in Portugal and won't recover in time for this one with James Milner expected to deputise at right-back once again, whilst midfielders Thiago and Harvey Elliott are both out.
MAN CITY
- Man City reminded everyone why they are the reigning champions last weekend, beating Chelsea 0-1 at Stamford Bridge, although an Champions League match away at PSG in midweek was a bridge too far for Pep Guardiola’s men, with the French giants triumphing in Paris by two goals to nil.
- Guardiola could go with the same starting XI that defeated Chelsea for this one, especially with German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan due to miss out once again through a thigh injury.

THE PREDICTION
A huge match in the context of this season’s Premier League, Man City travel to Liverpool with the belief that they can triumph at Anfield for the second consecutive season following their victory away at Chelsea last weekend. However, that win came in an empty stadium and with a full home crowd behind Liverpool this time round, a similar outcome would be a big surprise. Instead, a tight affair is expected with both sides having been excellent defensively so far this season. Man City have conceded just one league goal so far in 2021-22 and whilst Liverpool did ship three away at Brentford last time, their backline is likely to put in a significantly improved performance here. Chances could well be few and far between these two sides with both looking to prioritise defensive stability, being well aware of the quality their opponents possess. With that in mind, backing under 2.5 goals looks the shrewd move in this one.
Tip: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
