THE LOWDOWN

FULHAM

Over the last month or so, Fulham have become one of the entertainers in the Premier League with The Cottagers earning back-to-back 5-0 victories at the start of December and then continuing to be progressive and on the front foot in games since, albeit to less impressive results. They have, in fact, endured three successive defeats without scoring.

They come into this one on the back of a 3-0 hammering at the hands of AFC Bournemouth in their most recent outing on Boxing Day. That loss followed on from their 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley just before Christmas, which had come after being beaten 3-0 by Newcastle at St James’ Park. It does appear they are now simply focused on the EFL Cup, which they have reached the semi-finals of.

ARSENAL

In the last couple of months, Manchester City have endured a really difficult couple of months with just two wins in their last seven matches in the Premier League. Arsenal have had an excellent opportunity to create a gap at the top-of-the-table but The Gunners are instead now going to look over their shoulders.

The north Londoners come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to capital city rivals West Ham United in their most recent outing on Thursday evening. Mikel Arteta’s men were held to a 1-1 draw by Liverpool at Anfield last weekend and they have managed just one win in their last four matches.

THE TEAM NEWS

FULHAM

Marco Silva has said that his key attacker, Willian, remains a doubt for this weekend’s visit of title challenging Arsenal but Mexico international Raul Jimenez will return after his three-match suspension due to a red card received against Newcastle.

Experienced United States international defender Tim Ream, as well as former Barcelona winger Adama Traore, will remain sidelined for this weekend’s clash with respective injury issues as they face The Gunners.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Leno; Tete, Adarabioyo, Bassey, Robinson; Palhinha, Cairney; Decordova-Reid, Pereira, Iwobi; Jimenez

UNAVAILABLE: Ream (Injured), Traore (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Willian (Injured)

ARSENAL

The big news for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta is that previously in-form Germany international Kai Havertz can return to the side after suspension and will be available for this weekend’s short trip across the capital to Craven Cottage.

There are no fresh injury concerns or updates for The Gunners, though, with the likes of Fabio Vieira, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber remaining unavailable due to respective injuries.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Odegaard, Rice, Havertz; Saka, Jesus, Martinelli

UNAVAILABLE: Partey (Injured), Timber (Injured), Vieira (Injured), Tomiyasu (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Neither of these teams will be overly pleased with how they come into this one as both have set themselves up for overperformance before then suffering frustrating results over the festive period. Arsenal will still more than fancy themselves as they go west to Fulham with Mikel Arteta’s side seemingly resilient enough to step up and bounce back from a setback like the one on Thursday. Given Fulham’s poor form, too, an Arsenal victory appears very likely.

TIP: ARSENAL TO WIN
