THE LOWDOWN

EVERTON

Everton came within a whisker of losing their Premier League status for the first time last season but survived the drop on the final day of the season thanks to a stunning Abdoulaye Doucoure strike against Bournemouth, and Sean Dyche has now had time to prepare for a full season where he will aim to sure up the Toffees and ensure they don't get dragged into another relegation battle.

Dyche's squad is much smaller than it was last season - although that is usually to his liking - following the release of several players at the end of their contracts. Coming in the other direction is veteran Ashley Young on a free transfer, and Arnaut Danjuma on a loan deal from Villarreal, although more may follow before the transfer deadline comes to a close.

FULHAM

Marco Silva guided Fulham to an excellent top-half finish last season on their first season back in the top-flight, and the Cottagers will aim to build up on that impressive campaign.

Their preparations for the league haven't exactly been ideal though, with plenty of speculation surrounding the futures of key assets Willian and Aleksandar Mitrovic. For now, the Cottagers have managed to keep hold of the duo, but it has been an unwanted distraction in the build-up to the season. Calvin Bassey and Raul Jimenez are the two signings Silva has made so far, and he would ideally like to make one or two more acquisitions to bolster his squad.

THE TEAM NEWS

EVERTON

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a fitness doubt and may have to be content with a place on the bench, while Seamus Coleman, Dwight McNeil and Dele Alli are not available for selection. There is plenty of competition for places in defence though, with Jarrad Branthwaite, Ben Godfrey and Michael Keane all hoping to partner James Tarkowski.

PREDICTED XI (4-5-1): Pickford; Patterson, Branthwaite, Tarkowski, Young; Garner, Onana, Gueye, Doucoure, Iwobi; Maupay

UNAVAILABLE: Coleman (Injured), McNeil (Injured), Dele (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Calvert-Lewin (Fitness)

FULHAM

Joao Palhinha is the only confirmed absentee in the Cottagers camp with a shoulder injury, while Tom Cairney and Andreas Pereira are both considered injury doubts. Silva has a key decision to make up front with new signing Raul Jimenez vying for a spot with Aleksandar Mitrovic.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Leno; Tete, Diop, Bassey, Robinson; Reed, Lukic; Wilson, Pereira, Willian; Jimenez

UNAVAILABLE: Palhinha (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Cairney (Injured), Pereira (injured)

THE PREDICTION

Sean Dyche's teams are typically well-organised and difficult to break down, and on the evidence of their pre-season friendlies (four successive clean sheets for the Toffees), his Everton team are responding well to his methods. They will look to nullify Fulham's attack at Goodison Park, and that could well lead to a low-scoring game. With Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling for fitness and Aleksandar Mitrovic not exactly in Marco Silva's good books right now, firepower may be missing from this fixture. With that in mind, consider backing against both teams finding the net.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – NO
