THE LOWDOWN

CHELSEA

Chelsea are still lacking fluidity under Maurizio Pochettino with their last two fixtures seeing them lose at home to Nottingham Forest before being held to a goalless draw by Bournemouth.

Last weekend's stalemate with the Cherries was once again a tale of missed chances for the Blues, although their opponents were also guilty of some profligacy in front of goal. Having failed to find the net in their last two matches, questions are once again being asked of Chelsea's effectiveness in the transfer market.

ASTON VILLA

Aston Villa looked like they were heading for a second successive Premier League defeat last weekend, but a late rally saw them steal all three points against Crystal Palace. It wasn't until the 87th minute that Villa managed to level matters after Odsonne Edouard had earlier given Palace the lead, and two injury-time goals then completed the comeback.

Unai Emery's men were in European action on Thursday, when a much-changed side fell to a 3-2 defeat to Polish outfit Legia Warsaw.

THE TEAM NEWS

CHELSEA

A change in shape did not yield the desired effect last weekend so Pochettino could revert to a back three here, with Ben Chilwell coming back into the side at left wing-back.

Moises Caicedo needs to be assessed but could return to the fold, while Armando Broja has a chance of making the squad and will offer an alternative option to the misfiring Nicholas Jackson up front. Marc Cucurealla and Nordi Madueke have returned to training after their respective issues.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Sanchez, Disasi, Silva, Colwill; Gusto, Gallagher, Caicedo, Chilwell; Sterling, Fernandez; Jackson

UNAVAILABLE: Bettinelli (Injured), Chalobah (Injured), Fofana (Injured), Badiashile (Injured), James (Injured), Lavia (Injured), Chukwuemeka (Injured), Nkunku (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Cucurella (Fitness), Madueke (Fitness), Caicedo (Injured), Broja (Fitness)

ASTON VILLA

Jacob Ramsey got some minutes under his belt on Thursday night and he will be considered for a start, but Bertrand Traore was absent once again and could also miss out on Sunday.

Jhon Duran has really caught the eye this season with four goals despite limited minutes, and Emery may consider ways in which he can start the Colombian alongside Ollie Watkins.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-2-1): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Luiz; Bailey, Diaby, Zaniolo; Watkins

UNAVAILABLE: Mings (Injured), Carlos (Injured), Iroegbunam (Injured), Buendia (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Traore (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Chelsea have shown glimpses quality this season but there still remain a number of issues for Maurizio Pochettino to resolve, namely an inability to put the ball in the net. In fairness, he has not been helped by a lengthy injury list that has deprived him of playing his strongest side, but given their considerable financial outlay, few will have sympathy for them. This could be another low-scoring game, with opponents Villa likely to be lacking some energy given their midweek exertions in Europe. Under 2.5 goals is the tip.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
