BRENTFORD PREVIEW: BUSY BEES

After 22 seconds last weekend, Cameroonian international forward Bryan Mbeumo scored a spectacular strike to give Brentford the lead against Tottenham Hotspur in north London. The Bees eventually succumbed to a 3-1 defeat but, once again, the performance was a lot better than what was often served up last season.

They have suffered three defeats in their opening five matches but they have come against three of last season’s top five with the Spurs loss accompanied by defeats at the Etihad Stadium as well as Anfield. The tactically flexible and impressive Thomas Frank has enjoyed two home wins and they will be confident of their competitiveness in this one.

WEST HAM PREVIEW: SOFT HAMMERS

Over the summer, UEFA Europa Conference League winning coach David Moyes was replaced by UEFA Europa League winning coach Julen Lopetegui as the Irons spend over £120 million to try and build on what was an extremely solid foundation to mount a serious challenge of breaking the top six with an improved style of football.

Julen Lopetegui is and never really has been known for outright fluency in his football and the lack of defensive cohesion will be a massive concern in these early stages. Their 5-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield in the third round of the EFL Cup did not go down well after Chelsea hammered them by three goals to nil at the London Stadium last weekend.

West Ham’s under pressure boss Julen Lopetegui has a couple of injury issues to deal with and may be forced into shuffling his pack purely due to searching for a much-needed performance and victory.

The only confirmed absentee for this weekend is Mexico captain Edson Alvarez, who is missing through suspension, whilst striker Niclas Fullkrug is also a major doubt for this weekend due to an Achilles and calf injury.

UNAVAILABLE: Alvarez (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Fullkrug (Injured)

BRENTFORD VS WEST HAM PREDICTION

The brilliance of Brentford is that, despite a small budget in relative terms to the rest of the Premier League, they are capable of scoring goals and winning games in a variety of ways which always makes it really difficult for any side to face them. They face a West Ham United side that are the complete opposite of that with a real lack of identity there for everyone to see. Brentford, with home advantage, would be the value bet here.
