THE LOWDOWN

BRENTFORD

It is difficult to see how Brentford could top their 2022-23 campaign as the Bees finished in the top half of the table - a superb effort considering the relatively minimal resources available to Thomas Frank.

That is a testament to his excellent leadership though, and they head into this fixture knowing that they finished just one point behind opponents Spurs last season.

TOTTENHAM

All the talk around Spurs of late has been surrounding the future of Harry Kane, with their talismanic striker now on the verge of completing a move to Bayern Munich. It brings to an end a somewhat protracted saga, but new boss Ange Postecoglou must now focus on the assets he does have at the club, and there is still plenty of talent in the dressing room.

THE TEAM NEWS

BRENTFORD

Aside from the long-term suspension of Ivan Toney, Thomas can boast a near fully-fit squad to start the season, with only Frank Onyeka a slight injury doubt. There were one or two concerns regarding Rico Henry, Josh Dasilva, Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo, but the manager has declared them all fit and available for selection.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Flekken; Mee, Pinnock, Ajer; Hickey, Jensen, Norgaard, Janelt Schade; Mbeumo, Wissa

UNAVAILABLE: Toney (Suspended)

QUESTIONABLE: Onyeka (Injured)

TOTTENHAM

The imminent exit of Harry Kane should pave the way for Richarlison to assume the central striker spot, with Postecoglou confirming that the Brazilian has overcome a recent knock.

Summer signing Micky van der Ven is available but not yet fully-fit, while James Maddison should make his competitive debut for the North London club.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Emerson, Romero, Davies; Udogie; Bissouma, Hojbjerg; Kulusevski, Maddison, Son; Richarlison

UNAVAILABLE: Whiteman (Injured), Sessengon (Injured), Bentancur (Injured), Gil (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Forster (Injured), Van de Ven (Fitness), Ndombele (Fitness)

THE PREDICTION

The Harry Kane situation has been an unwelcome distraction in Spurs' preparations for the new season under their new manager, so it will be interesting to see how they perform in this opener. This is perhaps the opportunity that Richarlison has been waiting for though. The Brazilian has failed to really take off at Spurs, but he has the talent to rise to the occasion as the main man and we're backing him to find the net in this fixture.

TIP: RICHARLISON TO SCORE ANYTIME
