THE LOWDOWN

BOURNEMOUTH

It has been an extremely impressive few months for Andoni Iraola and AFC Bournemouth after The Cherries had started the season quite slowly. The southerners now begin this weekend sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table but with a couple of games in hand on a few of the sides that are just above them in the Premier League.

Bournemouth did suffer a defeat in their most recent outing in the league, which was on New Year’s Eve, as they were beaten 3-1 by Tottenham Hotspur. They returned to winning ways a couple of weeks ago, though, coming from 2-0 down to defeat Queens Park Rangers by three goals to two at Loftus Road in the third round of the FA Cup.

LIVERPOOL

Liverpool could well be about to repeat their 2021/22 season in respect of being involved in every single possible game with The Reds into the fourth round of the FA Cup after defeating Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, knockouts of the UEFA Europa League and currently 2-1 up on aggregate in the semi-finals of the EFL Cup against Fulham.

However, most importantly, The Reds are once again title challengers in the Premier League and they begin this weekend sitting at the top-of-the-table, two points above Manchester City with both sides having played 20 matches. They have enjoyed three wins out of three in 2024 after sandwiching that aforementioned defeat of Arsenal with wins against Newcastle and Fulham.

THE TEAM NEWS

BOURNEMOUTH

Andoni Iraola has once again ruled out two key players for this weekend’s visit of Liverpool down to the south coast. Full-back duo Milos Kerkez and Adam Smith are both missing from this one due to injury.

Lloyd Kelly is also a major doubt for this weekend, too. However, Tyler Adams and Ryan Fredericks remain out injured, whilst Dango Ouattara and Antoine Semenyo are away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Neto; Aarons, Zabarnyi, Mepham, Tavernier; Scott, Cook; Christie, Billing, Sinisterra; Moore

UNAVAILABLE: Randolph (Illness), Semenyo (International duty), Ouattara (International duty), Fredericks (Injured), Kerkez (Injured), Smith (Injured), Senesi (Suspended), Adams (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Kelly (Injured)

LIVERPOOL

Jurgen Klopp would have been without Mohamed Salah anyway as he is on international duty but the major talking point in his pre-match press conference was about the Egyptian suffering an injury against Ghana on Thursday and the German has said the extent to Salah’s hamstring injury is not yet known.

Klopp will remain without Salah as well as Wataru Endo due to international tournaments at the moment, whilst full-backs Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are edging back to fitness but remain unavailable. Klopp said he does not expect anybody back for this weekend’s game.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Bradley, Konate, Van Dijk, Gomez; Jones, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Diaz, Nunez, Gakpo

UNAVAILABLE: Endo (International duty), Alexander-Arnold (Injured), Salah (International duty), Robertson (Injured), Szoboszlai (Injured), Matip (Injured), Bajcetic (Injured), Thiago (Injured), Tsimikas (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

AFC Bournemouth have scored three goals in four of their last five matches across all competitions as Andoni Iraola’s intense, attacking style of football really does begin to take hold at the Vitality Stadium. They welcome a Liverpool side that have been a lot more controlled than many would have expected this season but have remained a little gung-ho in transition this season so, whilst they are favourites, a high-scoring and entertaining encounter is to be expected on Sunday afternoon.

TIP: BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE & OVER 2.5 GOALS
