THE PREDICTION

Bournemouth made home advantage count in the first leg of their Championship playoff semi-final vs Brentford, beating the Bees 1-0 in a closely fought contest. Brentford were afforded opportunities however, with one guilt edged chance in particular spurned late on in the second half. If Brentford are to turn this tie around, head coach Thomas Frank must find a way to get Championship top scorer Ivan Toney in the game more often, after the striker found himself nullified by the Bournemouth backline at the Vitality Stadium. With home advantage in Brentford’s favour this time and fans back in the ground, Frank’s men are expected to pile on the pressure from the first minute and look to dominate possession as they seek to create the chances required to restore parity. Last season saw Brentford overturn a first leg deficit in the playoffs and providing they show more of a clinical edge in front of goal than they did on the South Coast, the hosts certainly have the firepower going forward to win this match and ultimately advance into the playoff final for the second straight season, although they may need extra time and even penalties to do so.
