URUGUAY PREVIEW: KEEPING THE MOMENTUM

In the autumn, Uruguay defeated both Argentina and Brazil by two goals to nil to enjoy a strong start to CONMEBOL qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and they have a vigour and zest to their side emblematic of the best of Marcelo Bielsa.

They took an early lead in their opener against Panama the other day before late strikes from Darwin Nunez and Matias Vina gave them a very comfortable score-line, albeit Michael Murillo did notch a consolation for the Panamanians.

BOLIVIA PREVIEW: ONE OF THE WEAKEST

Bolivia are the weakest side in South America and often finish rock-bottom or second-bottom in CONMEBOL’s ten-team round-robin table for FIFA World Cup qualification and their low level was shown in their opening game.

They went a goal down inside just three minutes then the United States’ captain Christian Pulisic opened the scoring before former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun sealed Bolivia’s 2-0 defeat just before half-time.

URUGUAY TEAM NEWS: DOUBTS OVER RONALD ARAUJO

It was a surprise that Jose Maria Gimenez was left on the bench for their opener but he ended up replacing Ronald Araujo mid-way through the game and he is a doubt, despite the Barcelona defender clarifying he came off as a result of dehydration and is now fine.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Sergio Rochet; Nahitan Nandez, Ronald Araujo, Mathias Olivera, Matias Vina; Fede Valverde, Manuel Ugarte; Facundo Pellistri, Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Maximiliano Araujo; Darwin Nunez

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Ronald Araujo (Injured)

BOLIVIA TEAM NEWS: CAUTION CONCERNS

Bolivia are expected to name a similar team to the one that began their tournament against the United States in Texas the other day. They do have some concerns with captain Luis Haquin one of three players a booking away from suspension.

PREDICTED XI (3-1-4-2): Guillermo Viscarra; Jesus Sagredo, Luis Haquin, Jose Sagredo; Leonel Justiniano; Diego Medina, Miguelito, Fernando Saucedo, Gabriel Villamil; Bruno Miranda, Rodrigo Ramallo

UNAVAILABLE:

URUGUAY VS BOLIVIA PREDICTION

This has the potential to be an extremely one-sided encounter. For whatever reason, despite their intensity and aggression as well as generally silky football, Marcelo Bielsa sides tend to be quite profligate in front of goal and that would be the only reason to suggest this may not be a rout. Bolivia are weak in South America and that came across against North American opposition the other day so a comfortable Uruguayan victory is to be expected.
