BRENTFORD PREVIEW: BUZZING BEES

So far this season, Thomas Frank and Brentford have the best home record in the Premier League. In their five matches in the top-flight, the Bees have won four games with a draw in their games in west London, which is the same record as Manchester City, but they are home top scorers with 15 notched in their opening five games.

Four of those 15 came at the weekend as they won a topsy-turvy game against Ipswich Town by four goals to three with Bryan Mbeumo notching deep into second-half stoppage-time. Brentford have been poor in cup competitions for pretty much ever and have even been unconvincing in defeating Colchester United and Leyton Orient en route to this clash.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY PREVIEW: IMPROVING OWLS

Young and exciting German coach Danny Rohl is in charge of Championship side Sheffield Wednesday as they try and rebuild themselves again after a poor start to this campaign. The Owls were magnificent in the second-half of last season and have begun to pick up results in the last month and a half or so, as they did again at the weekend.

The South Yorkshire club come into this one on the back of a 2-1 victory away at struggling Portsmouth at Fratton Park at the weekend. On their run to the fourth round of the EFL Cup, Wednesday have defeated Hull City by two goals to one, Grimsby Town by five goals to one and then Blackpool by a goal to nil.

BRENTFORD TEAM NEWS: STILL NO HENRY

Thomas Frank has said that Brentford are being cautious with the return of Rico Henry. He has resumed full training but is still rebuilding his fitness levels ahead of playing again.

Frank has said that Brentford will go ‘very strong and we will take this very seriously.’ He also discussed the respect Brentford have for this competition and ‘for Wednesday.’

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY TEAM NEWS: COUPLE OF ISSUES

Danny Rohl is dealing with a couple of injury concerns for this week’s clash with Brentford as both Ben Hamer and Nathaniel Chalobah are sidelined for the visitors.

They do also have a couple of injury doubts and uncertainties, too, as summer signing Olaf Kobacki remains a doubt but Liam Palmer with Dominic Iorfa are back

BRENTFORD VS SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY PREDICTION

Brentford have often not necessarily taken cup competitions seriously since gaining promotion to the Premier League back in 2021. They face a Sheffield Wednesday side that with low possession and high interception numbers are built to play on the counter-attack. However, with the Bees likely to go strong and having also redeveloped their more possession-dominant style, too, another entertaining home win would appear the likeliest outcome for this one.
