THE LOWDOWN

SPORTING CHARLEROI

Mid-way through last season, Sporting Charleroi turned to former boss Felice Mazzu to steer them up the table. The former Anderlecht and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise manager failed to instil any consistency last season as Charleroi finished in mid-table and they went into this campaign a little concerned about the league’s reduction in size from 18 to 16 teams.

They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom four and the end of season championship round playoff places. Their 3-1 loss to the aforementioned Union SG last weekend means they have managed just one victory in their opening nine matches so far this season. Mazzu is coming under increasing pressure as Charleroi boss.

RWDM

As part of the John Textor ownership model, alongside the likes of Botafogo, Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais, Racing White Daring Molenbeek gained promotion to the Belgian top-flight last season. They then, over the summer, appointed former Botafogo caretaker and Lyon assistant manager Claudio Cacapa ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

They started with a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Genk on the opening day of the season but they have suffered just two further defeats in their next eight matches. However, despite their respectable and steady start to the season, they do come into this on the back of one win in five games, albeit they have played Standard Liege, Antwerp, Union SG and Gent in that time.

THE TEAM NEWS

SPORTING CHARLEROI

Felice Mazzu could welcome back a few players this weekend but they remain doubts and they could still name an unchanged eleven on Friday evening.

RWDM

Claudio Cacapa has no fresh injury or suspension concerns with just Kylian Hazard a definite absentee after suffering an ACL injury last month.

THE PREDICTION

Ahead of the 2023/24 Jupiler Pro League campaign, both of these teams would have anticipated a battle against relegation this season and that is not a view that has been disproven so far this season. RWDM have been better than was expected and they have only suffered defeats against genuinely good sides that will expect to be up there, whilst Charleroi are struggling to win any games. So, especially with their even away from home, a double chance bet in favour of RWDM looks the way to go for this one.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – RWDM TO WIN OR DRAW
