THE LOWDOWN

CLUB BRUGGE

Club Brugge endured a poor defence of their Belgian title last season, despite reaching the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. A member of Belgium’s so-called ‘big three’, Club Brugge churned through four managers last season and only just finished in the top four and the end of season championship round on the final day of the regular season.

They have, though, been outstanding and excellent to watch at the beginning of this campaign, following the appointment of former Celtic and NYCFC boss Ronny Deila towards the end of last year. Their 1-1 draw at home to Genk in their most recent outing will be a little frustrating but means they have suffered just two defeats in 15 matches so far this season.

SINT-TRUIDEN

Sint-Truiden are one of the major mid-table candidates to be dragged down towards the bottom end of the table this season. The Belgian Jupiler Pro League being reduced from 18 to 16 teams means that the fight between those sides in the middle, seeking to avoid falling down, has grown quite a lot with a more congested bottom-half likely.

They remain firmly in the middle-of-the-table ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures with three victories, three draws and two defeats in their opening eight matches of the campaign so far. They come into this on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw with Genk in their most recent outing, last weekend, in a game that they led by three goals to nil at half-time with a hat-trick from Aboubakary Koita.

THE TEAM NEWS

CLUB BRUGGE

Club Brugge continue to have a few doubts for this weekend with the likes of Canada international Tajon Buchanan as well as Bjorn Meijer and Josif Bursik.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Mignolet; Sabbe, Mechele, Spileers, De Cuyper; Vetlesen, Onyedika; Skov Olsen, Vanaken, Zinckernagel; Thiago

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Buchanan (Injured), Talbi (Injured), Meijer (Injured), Bursik (Injured)

SINT-TRUIDEN

Sint-Truiden have no fresh injury concerns for this weekend’s trip to Brugge and, as a result of that, could name an unchanged eleven for this one.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Suzuki; Van Helden, Smets, Godeau; Hashioka, Ito, Delorge-Knieper, Yamamoto, Bocat; Kaya, Koita

UNAVAILABLE: Van Dessel (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Ronny Deila’s Club Brugge have, as mentioned, been excellent at the start of this season, both in terms of general entertainment as well as their effectiveness. Their 15 matches across all competitions so far this season have consisted of 54 goals with both teams scoring in 11 of those matches, including each of their last nine games. They face a STVV side that are unlikely to pick up a point at Club Brugge but have remained entertaining themselves off the back of a 3-3 draw with Genk. A high-scoring home win is expected for this one.

TIP: CLUB BRUGGE TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
