SOUTH SUDAN PREVIEW: A WEAK SIDE

At Stade Alphonse Massemba-Debat in the Congolese capital city of Brazzaville the other day, South Sudan suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat with Chandrel Massanga scoring a 12th minute winner for Congo early on.

Under the management of former Madagascar coach Nicolas Dupuis, South Sudan are currently ranked 169th in the world according to FIFA and are among the weakest sides in the group stages of AFCON qualification.

SOUTH AFRICA PREVIEW: IMPROVING BAFANA BAFANA

South Africa, on the other hand, are supposedly on an upward trajectory with former Club Brugge, Anderlecht, Genk and Cameroon boss Hugo Broos at the helm of Bafana Bafana since 2021.

The South Africans were left frustrated the other day, though, with a 2-2 draw at home to Uganda in Johannesburg the other day. Burnley striker Lyle Foster gave them the lead but they needed a 95th minute equaliser to salvage a point against the Ugandans.

SOUTH SUDAN TEAM NEWS: POTENTIALLY UNCHANGED

There are no injury concerns for South Sudan to deal with for the visit of South Africa to Juba so there is a likelihood that they remain unchanged for this second qualifier.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Mawith; Taban, Maker, Thomas; Jawa, Daniel, Wahab, Loki; Yuel, Okello, Dhata

SOUTH AFRICA TEAM NEWS: FOSTER WORRY

The fitness of Lyle Foster is always a concern due to him being prone to injury but he came through unscathed against Uganda. Broos will have to make a decision on whether he can play back-to-back matches in quick succession.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Mothwa; Mudau, Ngezana, Dortley, Modiba; Sithole, Mokoena; Mokwana, Zwane, Appollis; Foster

SOUTH SUDAN VS SOUTH AFRICA PREDICTION

This has the potential to be a very intriguing encounter with South Sudan looking generally quite weak but South Africa, who were expected to begin with a victory against Uganda, are not overly convincing themselves, despite improvement. South Africa, though, will hope to carry through the momentum of scoring such a late equaliser in that game so a South African victory would appear a good bet for this one.
