MAURITANIA PREVIEW: TRYING TO BE STUBBORN

Mauritania are a side that have now played at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations and are generally consistently improving at both ends of the pitch but they do remain a side that is quite limited in terms of the quality of their personnel.

They started their 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a slender defeat of Botswana last month but have now suffered back-to-back 2-0 losses against Cape Verde and Egypt.

EGYPT PREVIEW: EASY FOR EGYPT

Intent on playing a reactive, low-scoring and fine margin style of football, the Egyptian national side has been guilty of significantly underperforming in recent years but the Pharaohs, now coached by Hossem Hassan, do appear a lot more clinical and effective.

It took until the 69th minute for them to break Mauritania down the other day but they eventually did so with goals from Trezeguet and Mohamed Salah. That means they have won all three qualifiers, scoring ten goals and keeping three successive clean sheets in the process.

MAURITANIA TEAM NEWS: KAMARA AND KOITA IMPORTANCE

Mauritania have a couple of forwards in their attack that have the most pedigree in the squad and they do have a reliance upon those players with that being former Fulham forward Aboubakar Kamara as well as Aboubakary Koita.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Diop; Keita, Dellah Yaly, Ba, Abeid; Thiam, Ngom, Mouhsine, Koita; Yade, Kamara

UNAVAILABLE: Amar (Injured)

EGYPT TEAM NEWS: FULLY FIT EGYPT

The Egyptians have a fully fit and available squad at the moment and, given their recent form as well as their impressive performance the other day, the Pharaohs are expected to name an unchanged eleven for this one.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): El Shenawy; Eid, Rabia, Abdelmonem, Hamdy; Attia, Fathy; Salah, Sayed, Trezeguet; Marmoush

MAURITANIA VS EGYPT PREDICTION

As mentioned, Mauritania have been looking to be generally quite stubborn and difficult to play against but the west Africans are still limited in attack with too much reliance on a fairly average set of forwards. They now face an Egyptian side that, along with the obvious name Mohamed Salah, now have the current Bundesliga top scorer, Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush. Another Egyptian victory is to be expected for this one.
