CONGO PREVIEW: DEFEATED CONGO

The Congolese national side, under the tutelage of interim coach Isaac Ngata, are arguably one of the weakest sides to be playing in the second round of the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign.

‘The Red Devils’, as they are nicknamed, started qualifying with a surprise but slender 1-0 defeat of South Sudan last month before a defeat to Uganda a few days later and then their annihilation at the hands of South Africa.

SOUTH AFRICA PREVIEW: BAFANA BAFANA

Hugo Broos’ South Africa will be eyeing up quite a big international cycle that is expected to include a good showing at the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations as well as qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bafana Bafana were left frustrated by needing to score a late equaliser against Uganda last month but did follow that up by beating Sudan and then their 5-0 hammering of Congo the other day now leaves them in a very good position in the group.

CONGO VS SOUTH AFRICA PREDICTION

The Congolese will view coming through the preliminary round of qualification as a success so winning a game against South Sudan is already a bit of a bonus. South Africa have not been overly convincing until that hammering the other day but they may well have stumbled upon some much-needed fluency so another fairly comfortable South African victory does appear to be the likeliest outcome for this one.
