THE PREDICTION

Romania come into this on the back of a solid defensive record in qualifying and that has had to be built upon as the Ianis Hagi, Florinel Coman and George Puscas generation has moved on; this current squad doesn’t have that talent going forward. Five goals in just eleven U21 caps for Adrian Petre is a useful record but he is one of just two players to score more than one goal for the side. The squad remains experienced with the likes of Alex Pascanu, of Ponferradina, and Andrei Ciobanu having 23 and 15 caps respectively; two of five players with appearances in the double figures. The Dutch come in with six of their squad having acrewd ten or more. The extremely impressive likely-to-be centre-back partnership of Perr Schuurs and Sven Botman form the spine of what is an impressive squad. As noted, though, their attacking output was most impressive in qualifying with an average of 4.6 goals per game. This should be a Netherlands win.
